On 12th March 2015 Matthew Elliott, Executive Director of Business for Britain will be joining Bethnal Green and Bow Conservative Association at the Duke of Wellington pub (12 Toynbee Street, Spitalfields E1 7NE).
Matthew Elliott is one of the foremost political campaigners working in Westminster and has set up a number of national campaign groups that have shaped the agenda of British politics over the last decade.
Matthew was the founder and former Chief Executive of the Taxpayers’ Alliance and Big Brother Watch.
Matthew also ran the successful NOtoAV campaign in the Alternative Vote referendum in 2011.
Matthew is currently Chief Executive of Business for Britain, the leading business group in the UK campaign for a better deal from the European Union for Britain.
Business for Britain was founded in April 2013 and now has over 750 signatories. It will have a determinative voice in the proposed 2017 referendum on EU membership. It believes that the UK Government is right to seek a new deal for the UK’s role in Europe and that far from being a threat to our economic interests, a flexible, competitive Europe, with more powers devolved from Brussels, is essential for growth, jobs and access to markets.
Described variously as a “campaigning genius” (by Evening Standard columnist Matthew D’Ancona), a “redoubtable campaigner and propagandist” (by former Labour MP Dennis MacShane), and a “cross between Norman Tebbitt and David Niven” (by Blairite Daily Telegraph blogger Dan Hodges), Matthew is also sought after as an electoral strategist and has worked with political parties in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Ghana, Maldives, Serbia and Ukraine.
He will be joining us at the Duke of Wellington from 19:30. Members are welcome to join this event from 19:00.
Andrew Boff, Leader of the Conservative Group on the Greater London Assembly is visiting the Duke of Wellington to support the @Savethedukee1 campaign at 18:30 and will also be around briefly at the start of this event to meet members and supporters.
